Call the Midwife season 8 has first table-read!

Call the Midwife season 8

Just to aid some of your excitement leading up to Call the Midwife season 8, CarterMatt comes bearing some great news: Today marks the first official table read!

In a new post on Twitter, Stephen McGann (who plays Dr. Turner) confirmed the big news while also sharing some photos featuring his co-stars Jennifer Kirby, Leonie Elliott, and Daniel Laurie. These photos give you a sense as to some of the performers who are returning to the BBC series for another batch of episodes and we understand why there’s a thirst for some of these images just because with this show, there are often many departures that happen both between seasons and also during them. Even with some of these photos there are inevitably going to be questions about people not featured in them.

For now though, we are all waiting for the official start of filming for more answers. There are eight installments total for season 8 coupled with the Christmas Special; hopefully, with that is going to bring us some interesting stories that help to accent further the remarkable journey of these characters and then also the time period that they are a part of. The 1960’s is an era of great change and we’ve seen that with some of these characters over the years. Yet, Call the Midwife is taking a very methodical approach to show that. They’re not trying to just have everything be different in Poplar within the span of a few short days. It takes some time in order for change to be enacted.

Beyond season 8, the entire cast and crew does have a certain degree of job security in that there is already a season 9 — the series still has great ratings for BBC One, so just based on that alone there is always a chance that it could stick around on the air longer.
