NCIS season 15: Pauley Perrette’s departure will come after two-part story
In a post on Twitter this weekend (which CarterMatt has for you below), Perrette confirmed that her final storyline is going to play out on May 1 and then conclude the following week. As previously confirmed, these episodes are not the final episodes of the season and there will be an opportunity to see what NCIS looks like without Abby (strange as that is to imagine) before season 15 comes to a close. As of right now it does still feel as though the odds are high that there will be a season 16 — even though CBS has not confirmed anything as of right now.
As for how CBS is wrapping up Abby’s story, all Perrette stated was that she worked hard in order to give everyone the best farewell possible. Based on some of the photos that she posted on Twitter late last week, some signs point towards this being more of a celebratory affair than something that you should feel especially sad about. Hopefully, that turns out to be the case since the last thing anyone should want is this character being killed off after 15 years. We’ve got enough anguish from previous NCIS main-character deaths to last a lifetime.

Expect CBS to release a little more information about Perrette’s departure and the final story over the coming weeks. While we understand that the lack of promotion around it right now is a quite frustrating, there’s a reason why things are playing out like this. As we explain in the video below (subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for more TV discussion), NCIS isn’t making Abby’s exit into a longer story just because that’s not something that they do. Because this show is a heavy procedural that generates big ratings in syndication, it’s harder for them to do longer story arcs and set up something to be paid off in a sequential manner. There are so many people who watch the show on cable and would be very confused if they were only seeing one episode in the middle of an arc. (Syndicated shows tend to often bounce around.)
We’re just glad that there are two episodes to set up Abby’s departure as opposed to just one. This is CBS signifying her importance to the series — we hope that’s reflected in the script as we say good bye to Abby.
One more thing…
Hopefully, most of the other cast members are returning! We know some contracts need to be renegotiated and there hasn’t been much chatter as of yet, but we are hopeful.
