Dancing with the Stars 26 casting softball star Jennie Finch, per reports

The rumors surrounding Jennie Finch and Dancing with the Stars have been out there for a long time and now it seems like it’s finally going to be happening for the upcoming 26th season.

According to a report from Entertainment Tonight, the softball legend and Olympic medalist (who may be the biggest star in the American sport’s modern history) is going to be a part of the all-athlete season alongside some other notable names such as Adam Rippon, Jamie Anderson, and Tonya Harding. (You can read some more about the reported cast at the CarterMatt article over here.) Casting Finch gives the ballroom series yet another different sort of athlete and that is clearly something that they are going for. Obviously they could just take someone from virtually every single sport of the recent Winter Olympics, but that would be a tad predictable.

There are some major sports still missing. It feels safe to assume that either a former or active NFL player is going to be in the mix, just as it also seems likely that there will be representation from a couple of other sports in baseball, the NBA, or the NHL. The problem with getting some of these athletes is that they have to be either retired players or, in the case of the NBA and the NHL, athletes whose seasons are about to be over because they’re missing the playoffs. (Is this where we campaign for Dirk Nowitzki to be a part of the season?)

The full cast of this Dancing with the Stars is going to be announced Friday on Good Morning America, leading up to its big debut on April 30. While this remains an interesting concept our concern is still the same: How producers are going to find some compelling personalities given that these people are not known for that? They’re known for their prowess in their sport. Also, how many weeks will this ultimately run? April 30 isn’t all that far from the end of the standard TV season.

Are you excited to see Jennie Finch finally on Dancing with the Stars, or would you have been more excited if this happened four or five years ago? Be sure to share right now in the attached comments!
