Dancing with the Stars 26 reportedly adds Tonya Harding, Adam Rippon

Dancing with the Stars

Dancing with the Stars 26 seems to be finally getting close to putting together its cast for its all-athletes edition, and that apparently includes getting the ever-controversial Tonya Harding on board.

A source confirmed to Us Weekly that Harding, who was the featured subject in the recent movie I, Tonya, is going to be one of the contestants starting later this spring. (Ironically, it wasn’t all that long that we had a chance to see Nancy Kerrigan on DWTS, either.) To go along with Tonya, you are also going to be seeing the likes of snowboarder Jamie Anderson and skater Adam Rippon in the cast. Rippon was one of the bigger stars of this past Olympics, and almost from the get-go the assumption was that he would get an invitation to be a part of the show this year.

What Rippon brings to Dancing with the Stars especially is something that it could really need for this all-athlete series: A major splash of personality. One of the real things to be worried about with this concept almost from the jump is that many of these athletes, while exceptional in their craft, are not necessarily great entertainers. They’ve never been counted on before to show some essence of flair or a personality. Adam has that in his arsenal and that could make him a fan favorite. Harding, meanwhile, has of course the recent headlines thanks to the movie. The clear underdog in this group at the moment is Anderson, mostly because she doesn’t pop off of the page nearly as much as the other two. (This is not Jamie’s first foray into reality TV, as she was previously a part of The Celebrity Apprentice — unfortunately, she did not make too much of a splash on that show.)

This athlete season is going to be a strange experiment, but maybe there will be some people out there who are actually grateful for the opportunity to watch a Dancing with the Stars season without the likes of reality stars or political figures out on the floor.
