Poldark star Eleanor Tomlinson set to do BBC War of the Worlds series

There is another impressive series being added to the resume of Poldark star Eleanor Tomlinson. Based on some of the latest reports out there, she is going to be taking on a role in an adaptation of the iconic War of the Worlds for the BBC. The actress is joining a fantastic cast for this series including Rafe Spall, Once Upon a Time actor Robert Carlyle, and Rupert Graves in the series, which is currnetly set to film in Liverpool.

Set in Edwardian England, this new adaptation of H.G. Wells’ seminal tale – the first alien invasion story in literature – follows George (played by Rafe Spall) and his partner Amy (Eleanor Tomlinson) as they attempt to defy society and start a life together. Rupert Graves is Frederick, George’s elder brother, and Robert Carlyle plays Ogilvy, an astronomer and scientist. The War of the Worlds tells their story as they face the escalating terror of an alien invasion, fighting for their lives against an enemy beyond their comprehension.

In a statement, Tomlinson had the following to say about joining the series:

“I’m delighted to be taking on the Martians with Rafe Spall in Mammoth Screen’s adaptation of The War Of The Worlds. I’ve been a fan of Craig Viveiros’ work for a while, so creating this world with him at the helm is very exciting.”

For those wondering as to whether or not this series would impact a possible Poldark season 5 (which has not been officially ordered as of yet), don’t count on it. If there is another season ordered it (more than likely) would not begin production until a little bit later this year. There is room for her to be able to do both, and it also helps that both series are product of the same production company in Mammoth Screen. That should (hopefully) make putting everything together a little bit easier!

There is no firm premiere date yet for War of the Worlds, but once there is some more information out there we’ll be sure to let you know.
