Everything Sucks canceled at Netflix; no season 2 coming

Everything Sucks

There is no more appropriate way to describe this news about Everything Sucks than to say everything sucks about reporting it.

Netflix has officially canceled the coming-of-age series set in the 1990’s after only one season, and this move comes less than two months after the show first premiered. This is a show that really tried to capture nostalgia and a slice of life for what it was like growing up in that time — there was a certain sweetness to it, but there was some heavier, darker moments that popped up here and there (which makes perfect sense for this time period). For most of the season, it was a show that was easy to like and appreciate the approach that the producers were taking. With a television world so deeply entranced with nostalgia right now, a show like this made perfect sense.

So what happened to cause the show to end so soon? For CarterMatt the answer is really twofold.

1. Not enough viewership – There’s no other reason for Netflix to quickly cancel a show than them deciding that there simply wasn’t enough of an audience for it. The series had a tougher time getting off the ground just because of the fact that you’re dealing with a series that, overall, had a much less-notable cast than most other Netflix originals. That makes promotion infinitely more challenging given that you are having to find some other ways in which to promote it without having that marquee name out there.

2. Netflix being so different than it was previously – Think in terms of where things were a few years ago with this service, when there was a real need for original content. Now that Netflix has countless original shows they are in a position where they can be a little bit more choosy. This is not the first show by any means that they’ve canceled after just one season, with Girlboss being another one that comes to mind. Sometimes, ideas just don’t work out as they want so they have to move forward.

As of right now we’re not seeing anything about the possibility of Everything Sucks season 2 heading elsewhere; if we do have more information on the subject, we will let you know.
