American Horror Story season 8 adds Joan Collins

American Horror Story: CultAmerican Horror Story season 8 may still be one of the more secretive iterations of the Ryan Murphy anthology series, but we do still have some more news of note when it comes to one of the cast members: Joan Collins is now on board!

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter the show executive producer (who recently signed a massive new deal with Netflix for more content) confirmed that Collins, best known for her work on Dynasty, is going to play a big part in the upcoming episodes. Casting legendary performers is something that Murphy’s got a knack in doing, hence him getting to work with Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon in the first place.

So far, American Horror Story season 8 has the likes of Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Kathy Bates within the cast. New episodes are going to be premiering starting this fall with the story apparently taking place in the not-too-distant future. Hopefully, this is a season of the show that goes back to keeping things simple and scary. Excess is probably the one word best used to describe the entire American Horror Story franchise — these shows often have so much going on that it gets a little too crazy for its own good. We understand it, given that Murphy clearly wants to cast as many great performers as possible onto a single season.

More information about American Horror Story season 8 could come out a little bit later this spring. The premiere date is not official as of yet, but the easiest assumption to make at present is that it’s going to be coming at some point later on in the fall.

As for the future of American Crime Story…

While it does appear as though Murphy is still working on the Hurricane Katrina-themed third season of the anthology show, he did confirm in the aforementioned interview that he is walking away from the idea of using Monica Lewinsky and a book about what happened during the Clinton administration for a season. Given all of the politically-charged television that is already out there at the moment, that does seem to be for the best.

There isn’t a whole lot of news in the inter on the future of another franchise in Feud. The second season of the FX series was supposedly going to be about Prince Charles and Princess Diana, but there hasn’t been a whole lot of movement on it over the past several months and we are at present a solid year from when the first season premiered. Murphy has a lot on his plate and we feel like a second season will come eventually — yet, it feels a little too easy to say with confidence that it’s going to be about the British Royal Family after all this time.
