Timeless season 2 episode 7: Meet Grace Humiston, ‘Mrs. Sherlock Holmes’
Before CarterMatt goes any further, let’s kick things off here by sharing the official Timeless season 2 episode 7 synopsis below:
04/29/2018 (10:00PM – 11:00PM) (Sunday) : In the bustle of 1919 New York City, suffragette Alice Paul (guest star Erica Dasher) is framed for murder and the Time Team partners up with legendary female crime solver Grace Humiston (guest star Sarah Sokolovic) – AKA “Mrs. Sherlock Holmes.” Together they attempt to prove Alice’s innocence in time for her to give a powerful speech that turns the tide in the passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. Back in the present, Connor Mason (Paterson Joseph) salvages key intel from the Rittenhouse raid.
So who was Grace Humiston (otherwise known as Mary Grace Quackenbos Humiston) beyond just her famous “Mrs. Holmes” nickname? She is known in history as the first female U.S. Attorney, and a woman who fought hard for the rights of those who were often stripped of them. Some of her best work came in exposing peonage that went on at various plantations, where men and women were often forced into debt slavery. She overcame a lot during her career, including sexism from many who tried to use her gender as a way to belittle some of her work. Many of the heroes you meet on Timeless are underdogs, people who often do overcome a great deal in order to land in the history books. They often used some of that prejudice as fuel in order to make some of their dreams and aspirations into a greater reality.
Based on some of what is mentioned in the synopsis, it seems as though we are meeting Humiston at a period in her life where she already has somewhat of a reputation — though not all of her famous work is yet complete.

As for everything else in Timeless season 2 episode 7…
Clearly, the work is still going on to get the jump on Rittenhouse in order to stop them once and for all. The challenge with the Time Team is often that they are on a wild-goose chases throughout history without anywhere near the same information as the people they are hunting down. This makes things an enormous challenge and takes so much more resourcefulness to catch up. Getting Garcia Flynn on your side is obviously going to be an important step in the right direction, but you never quite know for sure if he can be trusted.
