Let’s kick things off here with a pretty-clear reminder that there will, in fact, be another season of the series. Counterpart was officially renewed for a second season earlier this year, and from what we understand Starz was so confident that there would be another season of the show that they planned out production before the renewal was even announced. While the live+same-day ratings for the series have not necessarily been spectacular Counterpart has been the recipient of strong reviews and we feel it is going to continue build an audience via word of mouth over the next year or so. With a show like this, the most important thing is really just finding a way to get people to subscribe to your network, especially a different group of people than ever before. Counterpart has the potential to do just that.
Season 2 of the JK Simmons series is filming a number of scenes out on location in Berlin, and it will move later on to Los Angeles to finish out the remainder of filming. All of this seems to be planned out so that these episodes can premiere in early 2019 if at all possible — the filming structure for this show is fairly similar to Outlander in that these episodes are so complex than they need to be filmed long in advance. That gives the post-production team plenty of time to get them all together before the show actually premieres. Keeping Counterpart in January – March or April feels like the right move given that there is already an established audience here. While there is some substantial competition at this time of the year in between awards shows and also sporting events, this is not the sort of program that needs to have viewers watching when it’s on. So long as viewers are checking it out, we’re pretty sure that Starz is happy in the end.
