Vikings season 5: Katheryn Winnick, Clive Standen on what’s next

Vikings season 6 renewal

While you may be waiting for some time still to see the second half of Vikings season 5, you don’t necessarily have to wait anywhere near that long at all to see a new video featuring none other than Katheryn Winnick and Clive Standen! The two recently stopped by the Royal Ontario Museum (where there is a new Viking exhibit) to talk a little bit about some of what’s coming up — and there is absolutely a LOT to be excited about.

For Standen, much of it revolves around the simple return for Rollo, who’s been gone for a good stretch of time while the actor worked on Taken. In the new video below (via ET Canada)he explains further how his character’s big comeback may not be precisely what you would expect to see:

“You always have to expect the unexpected with Rollo. He’s coming back on that boat, he’s learned some things in France, and he’s coming back with an agenda. It’s never what you expect it to be. He’s got some unfinished business with Lagertha, with Bjorn, and definitely some unfinished business with Ivar the Boneless. I think that kid needs to be taken down a peg or two.”

Meanwhile, Winnick had a very simple reminder to hand down when it comes to Lagertha’s future, and the future of just about every character in general: “When you’re shooting a show like Vikings, no one is ever safe.”

Regardless of whether or not Winnick’s character survives the second half of season 5 (remember that the Seer has basically given her a death sentence at the hands of one of Ragnar’s sons at some point), Katheryn is going to be back to direct an episode for the upcoming sixth season. She describes the experience of working out in the conditions in Ireland to craft the best hour of TV possible:

“You’re battling so many different elements with light and daylight and wind and rain and different kinds of continuity … There are so many things that you cannot control when you’re shooting Vikings.

One more thing that we should point out here — the Royal Ontario Museum is awesome. We’ve been there many times over the years (lived in Toronto pretty much our whole life) and if you love Vikings or really any sort of history in general, you’re going to be in heaven there.
