Four reasons for a Legends of Tomorrow season 4 renewal to happen

Legends of Tomorrow

Over the past two seasons, a pretty amazing thing has occurred: Legends of Tomorrow has worked its way to become the best show in the Arrowverse (at least for us here at CarterMatt). It may even be one of our favorite shows on network TV just in terms of pure entertainment. There are so many things that this season has done right from start to finish: The introduction of new characters like Ava, Gary, Zari, and even Beebo the God of War, the creative episodes including the time loop, and the right balance of action, drama, and romance have made this show so incredibly entertaining to watch. This is a show that really celebrates and understands what a comic-book show should be more so than any other: Fun! It’s not trying to elevate a genre or change television as we know it; the writers set out to create a great experience time and time again and the series delivers.

Unfortunately, there is no Legends of Tomorrow season 4 renewal just yet, and as a means to further convince The CW to make the move, we’ve come up with four simple reasons why they should consider giving it a green light:

1. The ratings – While it may be down versus season 2 by more than 20% in the 18-49 demographic, that’s comparable to many other CW shows this year. To add to this, Legends of Tomorrow has done this without really having all that much in the way of a consistent timeslot. It’s changed nights/times since the beginning of the series than any other show in the Arrowverse.

2. Cast stability – Given that this series changes its main characters more often that some of the other superhero shows, it obviously benefits them to know in advance who has a job — and for the writers to make sure the Waverider has the right chemistry. (Reports are that if the series is renewed, Matt Ryan will become a series regular.)

3. The reviews – We have to imagine that The CW is not totally immune to the fact that there are people out there who love this season of Legends of Tomorrow … a lot. They’ve responded to its wit, its positivity, and the sheer amount of craziness it jams into just about every episode. Perhaps the craziest thing to us is that we haven’t even seen the main villain of this season yet in Mallus, and to be honest we really don’t care. This is a show where the villain doesn’t make or break a season.

4. The chance to let the show shine independently – We do think that it would do some good if The CW would actually announce the renewals of their shows independently for a change rather than all at once. After all, the bulk renewals don’t really do justice to the smaller shows, which are often overshadowed by the press in favor of bigger superhero names like Supergirl and The Flash. Legends of Tomorrow is worthy of its place in the Arrowverse on equal footing; if anything, the other shows should be trying to learn from it at this point.
