Arrow season 6: Is Colin Donnell returning?

Slade Wilson's son

Are we about to see a return of Colin Donnell on Arrow season 6? Based on one of the latest teaser photos via Stephen Amell on his social media, that does appear as though it’s possible.

As for how it’s possible though, that is an entirely different story given that Tommy is dead and this show hasn’t really gotten into the reviving-people-from-the-great-beyond business in a while. This would be the second time in which Donnell has returned to Arrow this season. After all, he previously graced the show in order to appear as the Earth-X Prometheus during the “Crisis on Earth-X” crossover event.

One of the reasons why this particular appearance by Colin seems possible is because filming for Chicago Med is ending a little early this season — thanks in part to the NBC drama only doing 20 episodes. As a matter of fact, filming on Chicago Med season 3 officially wrapped at the end of this past week, which means that Donnell could be available for the rest of Arrow in theory. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen.

We’ll admit that we are a big-time Tommy Merlyn fan and with that in mind, we are going to be more than excited to see some form of the character in action. He brought a lot of interesting complications to the first season — for starters, it was just nice that Oliver Queen had someone who actually qualified as a real friend for him! Beyond just that the relationship between him and Laurel Lance was compelling. It felt like there was so much more that could have been done with Tommy had he been allowed to stick around. (In addition to appearing previously for the crossover, he has also appeared in flashbacks in the past.)
