Who died on The Walking Dead season 8 episode 13?
Who was it this time? There are some spoilers ahead, so read on with that in mind…
At the end of the episode Sunday, the series chose to write out the character of Tobin, the sometimes-love interest of Carol and a man who became an integral part of Rick and his group over time. His journey was a fascinating one, but unfortunately it ended in one of the most gruesome ways possible — with him becoming a walker. We do imagine that, in some ways, this does amount to the full Walking Dead experience … though it’s also yet another thing in a long line of terrible occurrences that have transpired to the Carol character. Regardless of the parameters of their relationship, these two do have a connection that we’ve seen fleshed out and it is absolutely something that it would have been interesting to expand upon further. However, that for sure is now not happening.
Speaking as to whether or not Tobin and Carol could have been happy together in the future, here is what Stephen Douglas had to say per Entertainment Weekly:
I think Tobin was optimistic. I don’t know if it was a future with her. These are kind of approaching middle-aged people who have lived life. They’ve lost people, they’ve lost children, ostensibly with Tobin, and we know that Carol has lost her children. I always felt that with Tobin at least, there was just a respect for who she was as a person and a care about her. Whether or not they had to be romantically linked, I don’t think it was necessary. I think more than anything else, Tobin saw Carol as a companion. I think he was a lonely widower.
We will miss Tobin, but at the same time the show must go on — and go on it will. There are only three more episodes left this season (preview the latest one over here), and by the end of the season we’re hoping that there could be a proper opportunity to see something either shocking or uplifting happen.
