Doctor Who season 11: Jodie Whittaker cannot speak on future tenure

While we know that Jodie Whittaker is the star of Doctor Who season 11, how much longer is she going to be around beyond that?

Unfortunately, there is a little bit of mystery around that question — and it’s certainly somewhat surprising! In a new post from Sunday Times journalist Chrissy Iley’s blog, she makes it clear that she asked Whittaker about how long she signed on to play The Doctor; however, she replied that it was really not something that she could speak to.

There are certainly a few different options when it comes to Whittaker’s tenure of the show. It’s possible that she is signed on for a few years but the network doesn’t want her to say, largely just in case they decide to go in another direction during the run. Or, it’s possible that this is just a one-year deal and nobody wants that to get out right now. It’s also just possible that this is just the BBC being super-secretive and not wanting anyone to know about almost anything when it comes to the series’ long-term plans. There are many plans for Doctor Who to continue past season 11, but one of the few constants with this series is constant change. There are always going to be ways in which this series shifts and morphs, and really at this point the only thing that we can do is be prepared for them.

New episodes of Doctor Who featuring Whittaker are going to premiere come later this year and at the moment, the best advice we can offer is rather simple: Just enjoy and embrace them. Don’t focus on anything beyond that because in doing so, there is a chance that you could miss some of the excellence that is directly in front of you.
