NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 16 video: The latest Hetty, Mosley tease

NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 16 is airing on CBS Sunday night and, based on the latest sneak peek, it seems as though the relationship between Hetty and Shay Mosley is as touchy as ever.

In the new sneak peek below, you can see some of that tension unfold as Hetty does her part to extend somewhat of an olive branch to Mosley, thanking her for everything that she did to help with Vietnam while also offering to help her with the Secretary of the Navy to ensure that there are no repercussions that she faces as a result of some of her actions taken. With that being said, Mosley seems to take the comment as Hetty encouraging her to look the other way as to what the NCIS: LA team is doing in this episode, operating behind her back in order to deal with a delicate diplomatic operation that features Callen’s father at the center of it. The actions of Callen and company are such that they could land them in some serious trouble moving forward.

One of the interesting things that does come out of this sneak peek is a notion that we hadn’t quite thought of before now: What if the goal for some of these writers has never actually been to redeem Mosley at all? There is, admittedly, something super interesting about the concept of just leaning into the curb with this character so that she becomes almost an overt adversary? What if she decided long ago that she wants to shut down this team and she’s just waiting for the right time to do it? That’s interesting, and to us that could be a very satisfying conclusion to this story even if it doesn’t make Mosley altogether likable to some of the viewers at home. If nothing else, it would certainly make her diabolical. (We do wonder what that in turn would make Hidoko, who we’ve started to see more personal sides of as of late.)
