Will a Supernatural season 15 happen? For now, it seems possible
On paper, you could make the argument that season 14 could be a prime time to end the series given that it will be at that point that it officially crosses the threshold of 300 episodes. That is a lot of stories, and there aren’t too many shows that go beyond that. Yet, it’s been long said that so long as the ratings are good and Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are both interested, the show will go on … and go on it shall. This is what co-showrunner Andrew Dabb said recently on the subject of the 300th episode and the idea of the show’s potential end recently to TVLine:
“I don’t think that’s going to be our end … I think we’re going to keep going. I think there are more stories to tell. Three hundred is an awesome, awesome benchmark — very, very few shows get there; it’s like us and Gunsmoke — but I don’t think that’s our ending point.”
Could it then be season 15? Sure, but we do think that there is something a little bit counter-productive that comes with sitting around and debating the end of a series that has no specific end point. The ratings are still very good and creatively, we do think that the writers have some interesting ideas — though in some ways Supernatural is a show a little bit similar to Saturday Night Live in that it’s probably considered by its viewers the best the season or two that they started watching. Otherwise, it’s probably just “not as good.” That’s just what happens when people forge a nostalgic, natural connection to a certain period of time.
