Timeless season 2: should Nicholas Keynes be the main villain?

Timeless season 2

When Timeless ended its freshmen season we believed that the real villain wasn’t Flynn, but Emma. However, after the first two episodes of Season 2, Emma is nothing compared the Nicholas Keynes, whose overall plan could be well worse than anyone ever could have imagined.

In the episode, “The Darlington 500” we did not see Keynes until the very end, where we also saw his sexist attitude and ill-treatment of his granddaughter who traveled back in time to save him. Up until this point, he was just the solider Carol and Emma saved and brought back to the future, now we are seeing that they may have brought back the man in charge of Rittenhouse’s end game. At the end of episode two, Keynes stated,

“It’s time to begin preserving human culture: taking what’s best of us and subtracting and sloughing away the worst. Shaping, cutting away at the rock that is the human race until it resembles something like Michelangelo’s David. Until it reaches perfection everlasting. We few will save the world.”

The audience quickly sees that Carol is concerned about the plan, where Emma looks impresses and ready to get started. What makes Nicholas Keynes the real villain and why he should be the main villain is because of that end moment in “The Darlington 500.” The somewhat feared and concerned expression on Carol’s face said it all. She turned down a chance to be on Lucy’s side of history to be part of Rittenhouse and has never turned her back on her decision. Now, it looks like for the first time, she may regret it. We know Emma is a loyal servant to Rittenhouse, and we thought Carol was too, until now. Keynes has only spoken a few words, but what he did say was enough to make our eyebrows lift a little and faces will with confusion and fear.

Unlike Flynn, we don’t think Keynes will purposely hide in the past. He will time travel, but not to avoid Lucy, Wyatt, and Rufus, but to carry out his plan. We have a feeling that Keynes is not afraid of a confrontation, but may embrace it because he knows he will succeed. And that is why we should consider Keynes the real villain this season. We look forward to seeing him the rest of this season.
