Saturday Night Live preview: What Bill Hader characters should return?

Saturday Night Live is returning this weekend to NBC with another new episode and it is fair to say that this one is more ambitious than most. After all, you are bringing on board someone in Bill Hader to host the show who is arguably one of the best cast members in the history of the series. He plays countless great characters and with that in mind, you already have to be aware that there are a few who are not going to be included into the show tonight.

So of the ones that he has, which do we actually want to see tonight? Here are a few suggestions.

1. Stefon – It’s almost too obvious to say that there should be another Stefon reprisal given that we’re discussing here one of the most famous characters in SNL history and everyone wants to see him come back to discuss some of New York’s hottest clubs. Nonetheless, the character is just too funny to be ignored and we’ve seen already that it can be done without Seth Meyers being there. Still, it’s been a while since we’ve seen Seth on his former show and wouldn’t mind him stopping by in some capacity.

2. Anthony Peter Coleman – This character has only been featured a couple of times but the first appearance is still one of the greatest ones we’ve seen on the show — a grizzled war vet who completely fails at making a puppet who is different than him. It’s ridiculously dark but also ridiculously enjoyable.

3. Herb Welch – The elderly reporter is a character who grew a little bit tired when the show was on the air. At this point, though, we kind of miss him.

4. James Carville – Just in case Hader does not want to do Stefon, Carville is a great substitute since we figure that his political commentary would be more than welcome in this present era.
