Saturday Night Live’s Bill Hader promo may be one of the best ever

Bill Hader

Saturday Night Live has officially unveiled their latest promo for Bill Hader’s upcoming episode this weekend, and it’s fantastic. It may be the best promo they’ve ever done — it’s at least up there.

For starters, this feels almost like a new-age Lonely Island video with Pete Davidson and Chris Redd each rapping collectively about their love of Hader — considered by many to be one of the best cast members of the past several decades. Davidson drops in here that he in many ways owes Hader for his entire career on the show — his recommendation to show creator Lorne Michaels is one of the reasons why he was able to get his start with the SNL cast. Meanwhile, Redd’s part in the video is hilarious in that he repeatedly calls Bill his new dad even though the two don’t seem to have any apparent connection at all. This is Redd’s first year on the show — he wasn’t around back when Bill was a part of it.

Finally, we gotta talk about Melissa Villasenor’s singing. We know that a whole lot has been said about her ability to imitate other performers but she’s actually a rather excellent singer in her own right. She hits some pretty big notes in here in the midst of all of the chaos with Davidson and Redd.

Hader is seemingly on this weekend’s new episode of the show in order to promote his role on the HBO comedy Barry, which is going to feature him taking on a very different sort of role in a comedic hitman.

Just in case this video isn’t enough for you…
