This Is Us season 3: Melanie Liburd promoted to series regular
If you take a look at Libuard’s Instagram, she expressed her enthusiasm about joining the cast.
“So thrilled to be joining the brilliant and wonderful cast of ‘This Is Us’. It’s like a dream come true and I’m still pinching myself! Super excited for what’s in store for season 3!”
Liburd was introduced during the season 2 finale as Zoe, Beth’s cousin who has become a sister to her. We learned that she has was taken in by Beth’s parents and raised by them, but it took her some time before she accepted her new family. Before the wedding, Zoe was able to bond with Deja and convinced her to dress and attend the wedding. Later, during one of the flash forwards it was revealed that Zoe and Kevin had formed a relationship that was strong enough for them to take a trip to Vietnam on a mission regarding something related to his father and uncle.
So it looks as though a serious relationship will develop between Zoe and Kevin. This relationship could be good for Kevin because he and Zoe have something in common. They both have been through significant events in their lives that have changed and challenged them. For Zoe, it was adjusting to a new family life and for Kevin it’s his battle with addiction. They can relate to one another and we believe Zoe is going to be a positive influence on him in helping with his continued recovery. We look forward to see how their relationship grows. For people are fans of Kevin and Sophie, the writers have stated not to rule out Sophie just yet. Alexandra Breckenridge is still a series regular so while we may be moving on with Zoe, if Breckenridge continues to be a series regular then she may still be a big part of Kevin’s life.
In addition, we are very curious to see the real reason why they are traveling to Vietnam. We know it relates to Jack because of the photo Kevin has holding, but again, why retrace his father steps? Again, maybe Jack’s brother is still alive and living in Vietnam. There are many theories floating out there, but we look forward to the fall when we get some answers.
