Power season 5 premiere date revealed; season 6 renewal confirmed
In a statement confirming the news of the renewal, Starz President of Programming Carmi Zlotnik had the following to say:
“As ‘Power’ wraps production on season five, we want to acknowledge and thank our spectacular ‘Power’ team for producing another great season. We are also pleased to announce a pick-up for season six.”
The sixth-season premiere is slated to be directed by star / executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, which should serve as a reminder that the guy can do pretty much anything.
As for the premiere date…
Power season 5 will officially premiere on Sunday, July 1 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time. This is largely in line with what you would have expected from the series. This is a few days later than when season 4 premiered, but it falls within the same sort of release window. While there isn’t too much officially revealed about the season 5 story to date, we imagine that it will pick up not too long after the events of the season 4 finale, which featured Tasha seemingly taking the fall for her son Tariq’s decision to kill Ray Ray, the man responsible for the death of his sister. That was a painful, powerful moment that reminded us further just how deep some of Ghost’s problems run. If it wasn’t for his own history with Kanan and his past misgivings, Tariq never would’ve been in the position to go down the dark path that he did.
We’ve made it no secret that Power is one of our favorite dramas out there, and it’s certainly one of the most underrated critically. Commercially, though, it’s an undeniable success and the most-watched series on Starz overall.
The Power premiere date is being added to the official CarterMatt Premiere Guide. Check that out for more dates!
