Absentia season 2 reportedly will have new showrunner

While an Absentia season 2 renewal is still not 100% official, we’ve reported all along that all signs are charting that way. That remains true now.

With that said, signs are pointing more towards a couple of changes at the top as we move towards the series coming back on the air. One of the biggest ones seems to be happening behind the scenes in the showrunner position. According to a report coming in from Deadline, Samantha Corbin-Miller of Conviction is being brought in as the new boss of the writers room, replacing Matt Cirulnick, who held the responsibility for the first season. What’s also notable here is that the Stana Katic series may be angling for a two-season renewal, which could theoretically keep the series on the air until 2020.

What some of this conversation actually means is that there are going to be some opportunities to see a whole lot more of Emily Byrne in action, and it’s also a potential huge show of faith for Absentia from both Amazon and the studio Sony. This is a show that does have a great architecture set up to keep it on the air for a rather long time. For starters, it has broadcasters airing all over the world, and some of Katic’s popularity in many of these territories helps to ensure that there are plenty of viewers there. This is a show that entered the first year of airing with a specific plan that is now being executed personally. The thing that we wonder a little bit more now is whether or not there will be some other series that choose to follow the suit of Absentia and end up utilizing a similar model. Absentia is not the first series to be produced overseas and rolled out in a unique manner, but we think it’s done it more successfully than almost any other.
