TV Madness 2018: Chicago PD, Supergirl battle it out in round 1

TV Madness 2018Welcome to another edition of our third annual TV Madness Tournament! This is a fun annual tradition here at CarterMatt where we have some fun, engaging battles between various shows looking to make it all the way to the final round on March 28.

Above, you can see our full bracket, complete with entries, their seeds, and start/end dates. Once you are within the bracket, the dates listed are when the previous poll ends and the next one begins! We’ve got a great group of shows taking part this year, with some newbies as well as others who have been a part of the tournament every single year. The voting rules are pretty simple — you can vote however often you would like on however many devices that you would like! If you are on mobile and you are having a problem seeing the poll at the bottom of the article for whatever reason, be sure to click to view the non-AMP version of the page at the bottom of the article.

In today’s edition we’re looking at a crime series in Chicago PD doing battle against a superhero series in Supergirl. On paper, these two shows appear to be evenly matched in that they each have devoted fans and have been on the air long enough to really cultivate some great stories. They both also have been successful in past CarterMatt polls. This is really going to be about who wants to advance more within this given moment — some showdowns in round 1 have been easy to call, but in this case, we definitely think that it is anyone’s game.

Now that we’ve set the stage, let’s get to breaking down these entries further. Voting for this round remains open until Tuesday, March 10 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time.

Chicago PD (#4 seed) – The NBC series is coming back into the tournament this year after advancing to the second round in 2017. It managed to defeat Teen Wolf only to then lose to Black Sails, one of the biggest Cinderella stories. This time around, can the show make a little bit of a longer run? If it wants to, it has to make it through a pretty formidable opponent first — and it’s a show that already has an upset on its record.

Supergirl (#5 seed) – Last year, the CW series managed to topple Game of Thrones in what we considered to be a pretty epic round 1 upset at the time. However, after that it fell in a hard-fought match against Vikings. This year Supergirl is carrying with it the momentum of its strongest season to date anchored by a great villain; yet, is the show currently being off the air going to either help or hurt its chances? That’s something we are eager to find out.
