The Simpsons offered OJ Simpson guest spot 25 years ago

OJ SimpsonIn what has to the latest in one of many weird examples of coincidences when it comes to The Simpsonswe have this: News that apparently, OJ Simpson was once offered a guest spot on the show on an episode that aired 25 years to the day of the new interview special featuring the disgraced athlete on Fox.

In a new post on Twitter, executive producer Al Jean confirmed this news, saying that the episode was “Last Exit to Springfield,” a particularly popular episode from fairly early on in the series’ run. Simpson turned down the guest spot then, and he certainly missed his chance — after all, there is virtually a zero-percent chance now that Fox or the show’s producers ever invite him back now.

This coincidence is one of many strange ones related to The Simpsons, a show that already predicted the U.S. Men’s Curling Team winning gold and also Donald Trump being President. The funniest thing about this particular coincidence now is that it originally wasn’t going to happen. The plan for Fox originally was to air The Simpsons tonight, but that changed because of Fox wanting to put this OJ special on the air. This was gamesmanship on their part, and a hope to put something competitive up against American Idol as a means to get back at the show for moving away from Fox over to ABC.

Was that OJ special actually worth watching? Well, maybe if you had an extreme interest in the case from so many years ago — for us, though, our sentiment has always been that people are going to believe whatever they are going to when it comes to this case, and there’s really not all that much that anyone can do in order to change anyone’s mind.

The Simpsons has many more episodes to air this spring, and we imagine that there are going to be many more guest stars coming up in the future.
