NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 spoilers: Expect an emotional story before finale

John M. Jackson

While at the moment it does seem as though NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 is keeping most news about its finale under a heavy lock and key, leading up to it you better prepare yourself for some pretty darn emotional sequences. This is at least based in part on what series star Eric Christian Olsen, a guy who really would know because of being behind the scenes, is saying about what’s coming.

Here is some of what Olsen had to say on the subject of this episode in a new interview with TVLine:

I haven’t heard anything about the finale, but I’ve heard about the second-to-last episode which is a freight train. Like, it’s so good. It’s a deeply personal story, and you don’t see any of it coming. That’s what I love most about some of the movies that were up for awards this year, that I was constantly surprised where the plot went and where the characters went. Somebody must have been watching those movies, because in that second-to-last episode we have continuous turns that I did not see coming, from an emotion, character and plot standpoint. It gets heavy.

So what could this personal story be? We know that there are some interesting family stories that could be explored for both Sam and Callen; we know that there certainly are interesting stories worth exploring at present when it comes to Olsen’s Marty Deeks, but so many of them would in theory be tied to his relationship with Kensi. Unless producers really want to rip our hearts out as viewers, this story could be geared a little bit more towards something and someone else. (Granted, there is still plenty of time for things to change and for Deeks to develop some more emotional storylines. After all, we’re only entering episode #14 of presumably 24 airing on Sunday!)
