Doctor Who season 11: Alan Cumming to guest star

Alan Cumming

Just in case you wanted another reason to be excited in regards to Doctor Who season 11, here it is: Alan Cumming of The Good Wife and the upcoming CBS series Instinct, has officially joined the BBC drama for at least one episode.

In a new interview with the Homo Sapiens podcast, Cumming proclaimed that he is playing a “nice baddie” on the show by the name of King James I. He also made it clear that there is a possibility that he could come back at some point in the future. It obviously makes some sense as to why Doctor Who would want an actor of Cumming’s caliber, given that he is pretty incredible in just about everything that he does. The only issue of course with him is his schedule, given that his new show is going to take up a good bit of his time. We’ll just be happy to see him on Doctor Who whenever the series is lucky enough to have him.

Production on this new season is currently happening over in the UK, with there being no specific premiere date in mind yet other than at some point a little bit later in the year. It feels almost like an understatement to say that this is one of the biggest seasons for the show to date just on the basis of everything that you are going to see unfold. Jodie Whittaker is coming on board as the new Doctor after appearing on Broadchurch and a number of other series; meanwhile, Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall is also now on board as the new showrunner. This is going to be a new dimension of the series, and it is one that should perfectly reflect the present day more so than any other season so far.
