The X-Files season 11 episode 9 prepares you for the end

We’ve enjoyed the opportunity to dive back into the world of Mulder and Scully, but next week’s The X-Files season 11 episode 9 should bring with it yet another reminder of a sad truth: All good things must come to an end. We may not want it to end but that hardly means that more scripts will be turned out, and more opportunities will be given to see stories featuring these characters.

Provided that Gillian Anderson’s departure sticks, “Nothing Lasts Forever” is going to be the penultimate episode in what CarterMatt believes to be the series as we know it — maybe there will be talks about bringing the show back beyond that but without Scully, it’s really not The X-Files as we view it.

As for how much this episode will lean in directly into the finale, it may not be that much. After all, this episode was actually filmed before tonight’s “Familiar” and with that, the two episodes are both probably standalone in nature. We do still think, though, that there will be a thematic connection — just as we also have to assume that this episode was titled the way it is knowing that the finale is so close around the bend. We don’t have to be some sort of rampant conspiracy expert to think that this installment was named this way on purpose.

Below, the X-Files season 11 episode 9 synopsis gives you a little bit more of a sense as to just what could be coming up:

While investigating human organ theft, Mulder and Scully uncover a mysterious cult consumed with macabre rituals in the all-new “Nothing Lasts Forever” episode of THE X-FILES airing Wednesday, March 14 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (XF-1108) (TV-14 S, V)

For those who haven’t heard, the final episode of the season is entitled “My Struggle IV.” That story is continuing, but we still don’t understand why that blase title was so interesting to Chris Carter that he felt a reason to use it on four separate occasions.
