In this article, the focus is on what may very well be a clash of the medical titans. You’ve got in one corner a series in Grey’s Anatomy that is widely considered to be one of the most successful of its kind in American television history. It’s what many viewers look for to get a great mixture of TV comfort food and great performances. On the flip side of that, Call the Midwife is almost the British counterpart of that. While it may have only been around half the time, seven seasons is a lot for a British series. Both shows focus on people helping others in a time of desperate need; how they go about it is what makes them stand out from each other.
With that, let’s get to breaking down these entries further. Voting for this round remains open until Thursday, March 15 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time.
Grey’s Anatomy (#2 seed) – Grey’s Anatomy is a series that dominates its timeslot and addresses subjects in a way that speaks to how men and women live and work together. It doesn’t matter if we’re speaking so much about the medical community or people out in the real world. It’s such an emotional, powerful show that connects with viewers no matter who they are and where they’re from. It also helps that there are funny moments sprinkled in and it has such aspirational figures like Meredith Grey at the core of it all.
Call the Midwife (#7 seed) – Even though Call the Midwife is a period piece, it has figured out a way to tell stories about some of difficult subjects. It’s emotional, heartfelt, and powerful very much in its own way as you get to know some of these characters and better understand some of their individuals journeys. It’s one of those shows that will make you ugly cry, but then also find away to make you smile and have hope for the future. It’s resonance is one of the reasons why it has amassed the following that it has.
