TV Madness 2018: MacGyver, Grey’s Anatomy square off in round 2

We’ve got a great group of shows taking part this year, with some newbies as well as others who have been a part of the tournament every single year. The voting rules are pretty simple — you can vote however often you would like on however many devices that you would like! In today’s edition, we actually have our first upset of the tournament to discuss! MacGyver managed to dethrone The Good Doctor in the first round by a healthy margin and now it has even more intense competition going up against Grey’s Anatomy — easily one of the most popular shows all around the world. This should prove to be an interesting showdown since they are two very different shows with different audiences, and the winner here will have the chance of battling either Outlander or NCIS: Los Angeles in the third round.
Now that we’ve set the stage, let’s get to breaking down these entries further. Voting for this round remains open until Thursday, March 22 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time.
MacGyver (#6 seed) – We personally find that MacGyver is a series that ultimately embraces its underdog status in a rather big way. It’s fast-paced, fun, and while it doesn’t get a ton of promotion it has extremely loyal fans and it’s become a part of one of the most steady lineups in all of TV in CBS Friday nights. While it may be coming into this battle as the lower seed, it showed in the first round that it has no reason to be intimidated by any competition!
Grey’s Anatomy (#2 seed) – Call the Midwife did put up a fight in the first round, but the medical drama was still able to pull away in the closing days of the showdown. Now, it will have to take some of its momentum into this second round. Does Grey’s Anatomy have an advantage in that it is currently airing, whereas MacGyver is going to be on hiatus over the next few weeks? We think that, plus the passion of the fan bases, is one of many things to look out for here.
