Agents of SHIELD season 5 episode 11: The Ruby – Dove Cameron reveal
Here’s what you need to know: Elena has been amputated, and it was General Hale’s daughter Ruby (played by Dove Cameron) who was responsible for it. We imagined that there was a chance that this character was somehow evil, just as we also thought it was possible that she was the woman in the mask. Yet, this? Let’s just say that this is unexpected to say the least.
Does Ruby even feel any remorse over what she did? For the time being, it certainly doesn’t seem like it — just take a look at what Cameron had to say on the subject as a part of a new interview with TVLine:
Ruby is like a little baby machine, but she’s a human. She’s a girl, but she’s definitely Hale’s daughter. She’s got a little bit of a disassociation going on with humanity. She doesn’t really empathize. I don’t know if she thinks she’s doing the right thing. I think she’s doing the thing she thinks she’s supposed to do. She doesn’t really have a moral compass that’s like, “That wasn’t the right thing to do!” She’s a beast. She’s an animal. She’s a machine. She’s a cunning girl, who’s gonna do what it takes to get what she wants.
Our hope over the course of these upcoming episodes is that we do get a great chance to learn more about how to stop Ruby (she’s pretty insulated at the moment) and also more in terms of just how she ended up being this way. One of the things that we do give Agents of SHIELD credit for is coming up with some fascinating, dangerous female villains. That’s something that other superhero shows, at least those not fronted by a female hero, have struggled with.
