This Is Us season 2 will explore more flash-forwards

When This Is Us season 2 aired their Super Bowl episode, the biggest surprise was actually not the way in which Jack died; it was instead the decision to surge the story forward in time to see a small glimpse of Tess and Randall’s futures. She is working now within the foster-care system after her father instilled its importance in her. We know that these two characters make it a good decade and a half or so into the future, so that should satisfy many people out there constantly fearing more big character deaths among the Pearsons.

So will there be more of these flash-forwards as we move further along into season 2? Signs do point towards that being the case! For a little bit more insight, just be sure to check out what show executive producer Isaac Aptaker said to The Hollywood Reporter on the subject:

“It’s not a one-time thing … We didn’t just do that to be splashy during the Super Bowl episode. Since the beginning that’s been something we’ve known we were going to get to in the show. We had a lot of story we wanted to tell before we got there, but now that we’ve visited that time, nothing’s off the table and we will certainly be returning there in the future.”

Do we think that we will get a lot more of the flash-forwards this season? Not really. This is their new mystery and with season 3 already ordered, there’s not too much of a hurry to dive into that right now. Doing so would suddenly minimize the present in some way, given that it could give away what happens with certain relationships as well as with professional futures. The producers are more than likely going to take their time telling some of those stories. It feels like a flash forward at the end of the finale could be perfect for the sake of crafting some sort of enormous cliffhanger. Don’t you want everyone talking about something between the end of season 2 and the start of season 3? It seems like a great idea since we’re speaking here about an enormous cliffhanger between seasons, one that is going to run the better part of six months.
