The Walking Dead season 8 episode 9 promo: Carl’s journey to the end

Chandler Riggs leaving

When The Walking Dead season 8 episode 9 airs on AMC on Sunday night, you better be prepared for waterworks. This is the episode that changes the entire series. It shows you Carl as you remember him from the early days of the series, and then also Carl as you are going to see him as we near the end of the road. This upcoming episode will mark the grand finale for Chandler Riggs on the AMC series.

Over the past couple of weeks, it really has not done enough to promote what is coming for this character. Maybe there is a certain resistance that the network has to the idea, thinking that they don’t want to run the risk of spoilers getting out for viewers are behind. Yet, how much can you really worry about that? If you start to make your show so transfixed around viewers who may or may not be watching, it ends up hurting you more than it should. The Walking Dead season 8 episode 9 could be the most-watched episode of the entire season; it should be promoted.

That’s what the promo below is all about. It takes you through the entire journey of Carl from where he was at the start of the series to where he was shortly before being bit. At the end of the promo, they make it clear that Sunday’s episode is going to be the last for the character. Chandler Riggs gets to leave everything out on the line for an episode that could prove his true strength as an actor — if you didn’t believe that already. When Chandler’s received great material on the show in the past, he’s delivered. The unfortunate thing is that with such a large cast, he does not always get just an enormous amount of airtime. In the aftermath of this show, the hope is clearly that Riggs does have an ability to go off and do some things that are different and allowing him to flex different muscles. If he enters pilot season, there are probably many opportunities for him there; yet, he may opt to try and do movies for a while before getting back into television.

It’s not going to be a spoiler to anyone that Carl dies in this episode; yet, we do still highly recommend watching this episode live. Do you really want to be spoiled as to how it happens or Carl’s final words? That is the scene that could break almost every longtime fan of The Walking Dead to their core.
