Poldark video: The progression of George and Elizabeth
There are no season 4 spoilers within this video, which you can see below via the show’s official Twitter account. Instead, you do get a very fascinating discussion from both Jack Farthing and Heida Reed regarding these two characters and the journey that they had at the end of season 3. It is fascinating to hear the perception that George does in fact love his wife, even though he very rarely does much to actually show this said affection in an outwardly way. George also, unfortunately, is in love with power and he loves having that over everything — including her. That’s why there was such a reckoning at the end of the season where Elizabeth worked to get some of her power back. George also is suffering from insecurity, and as a means of that he tries to create an even more ruthless power dynamic. She battles back.
Why does Elizabeth lie when it comes to Ross and Valentine? That’s explained perfectly. George is a support system in his own strange way; what else is she going to do in that situation? All the truth does within her mind is make George angrier and potentially hurt her own future. She knows that she has no intention of revisiting anything with Ross. That is all buried in the past, and presumably it is going to stay there.

The closing scenes for these two characters are some of the best that we’ve seen from Farthing and Reed on the series to date. It offered up a better opportunity to see the vulnerability of both characters — it served as a beautiful reminder that within this fictional world they remain more or less just people with their own blemishes and flaws underneath the bluster.
