Law & Order: SVU season 19 episode 16 is coming up on NBC Wednesday, March 14 and at this point, the series should be settling back into its groove a little bit. This will be Philip Winchester’s second episode as a full-time ADA in New York City, and he better be fully accustomed to the role since the case that he and the SVU will be taking on is a challenging one. At the center of it is the issue of parental consent when it comes to organ donation. A surgeon may be doing what they think is right, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it is. This is one of those cases where there are a lot of difficult wrinkled to work through as well as ethical concerns.

NBC is, for the most part, keeping things fairly under wraps. The SVU season 19 episode 16 synopsis tees up a little more in the way of information as to what is coming:

03/14/2018 (09:00PM – 10:00PM) (Wednesday) : A girl’s tragic death becomes a criminal case when a surgeon harvests her organs without parental consent. Guest starring Callie Thorne and Janel Moloney.

From a guest-star perspective, it’s always nice to get Thorne back on the show. Is she going to be playing defense attorney Nikki Staines? That would be our assumption for now given that she last played the part in “Imposter.” Yet, it wouldn’t be the first time that the Necessary Roughness alum will have played different characters within the Dick Wolf extended universe. She’s already played different parts both on the original Law & Order as well as Criminal Intent.

As for Moloney, she did appear in an episode of Criminal Intent almost a decade ago. She’s probably best known these days for playing Matt Jamison’s wife on HBO’s outstanding The Leftovers. (If you haven’t watched it for some reason, please do — everyone in the cast is pretty darn sensational.)
