Lauren Cohan books Whiskey Cavalier pilot; is her Walking Dead future in doubt?
Things just got a little bit more interesting when it comes to Lauren Cohan’s future on The Walking Dead.
According to a new report coming in right now via Deadline, Cohan has officially signed on opposite Scott Foley for the ABC pilot Whiskey Cavalier, which comes courtesy of Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Undateable). This show has not been officially ordered to series just yet, but we do certainly think that her presence in it gives it a better shot than it would have had otherwise. The site notes that Whiskey Cavalier “follows the adventures of FBI agent Will Chase (codename: Whiskey Cavalier) — played by Foley — who, following an emotional break-up, is assigned to work with quick, cunning and completely fearless CIA operative Francesca “Frankie” Trowbridge (codename: Fiery Tribune) — played by Cohan. Together, they lead an interagency team of spies who periodically save the world (and each other) while navigating the rocky roads of friendship, romance and office politics.” Sound interesting? It certainly seems like it’s well-suited for success on network television.
As for her future on The Walking Dead – This is not a death sentence for Maggie by any means. Cohan reportedly has it within her deal that she can still make appearances on a recurring basis on the series in the future, and that does make some sense given that the timing of Walking Dead production is such that it starts earlier than most major network shows. It’s feasible that she could do two or three episodes a season or even more, depending on the Whiskey Cavalier episode order. If the show isn’t picked up, then this of course does give her an opportunity to make as many appearances as she wants on the series.

We certainly do not blame Cohan at this point in her career for starting to think a little bit beyond just what she is doing on The Walking Dead proper, given the fact that this is a show that has already been on the air for eight seasons and we’re currently at a time in which it is treated as extremely controversial due to what’s going on with Carl.
