This Is Us season 2: Series boss on Jack’s Vietnam story and much more

This Is Us season 2 episode 14

What’s coming up next on This Is Us season 2 for Jack Pearson? While it may seem like we’ve reached one ending of his story courtesy of what happened with the character’s death, that is really just a stepping stone for so much more. We’re gearing up now to dive into some other epic stories, including one pertaining to his time in Vietnam that should be especially illuminating. We may know so much about the man already, but in some ways we also know so little.

If you are curious just in terms of what the producers are planning to showcase when it comes to Jack in the near future, what we would suggest is that you check out some of the latest information that executive producer Dan Fogelman offered up on the subject to Entertainment Weekly:

“In many ways, Jack might be the character we still have the most to learn about, because he’s kept so many secrets in this period before we’ve really known him. We’re talking about the third season now, and I’m really excited about that, because we can do things with Jack and learn things about Jack that we really can’t with a lot of our other characters; we know more about them already…  It’s one of the things I’m most excited about — where we go next in learning stuff about Jack. Which is ironic because the character just died in the most public way on national television. I’m excited to enter his next chapter… Vietnam is going to be a big part of where we’re heading. We’ve met this guy who’s this heroic dream father figure, but he comes from a very different beginning, and we’ve even seen glimpses of that, so how does that man come from that? What was that journey? How does Jack’s past inform what has previously been the past when we met him?”

In following along with this, one of the intriguing things that This Is Us seems to be doing now is diving even more into the past while also jumping ahead into the future. One of the more mysterious aspects of the show now are the flash-forwards. We’ve gotten a chance to see them briefly on the series, but only to such an extent that we know Randall survives for at least a couple more decades. We don’t necessarily think that the entirety of the show needs to be about who lives or who dies, but things could start to lean more in that direction as more is revealed in the future.
