Are there still some of these hopes now? We certainly think so! The buzz hasn’t stopped, and we certainly think that the interest is still there.
Just in terms of the potential idea behind the revival, it’s not that hard to figure out: A new case opens the door for now-retired Sheriff Walt Longmire to re-enter the world of law enforcement, or at least consult on what the Sheriff’s Department is looking at in Absaroka County. Maybe Cady Longmire is the Sheriff now, or someone else close to her is. You could bring back Katee Sackhoff, Cassidy Freeman, Adam Bartley, Lou Diamond Phillips, and hopefully Barry Sloane alongside the wonderful Robert Taylor in the title role. While we don’t necessarily think of season 7 as another batch of ten episodes, we do envision something akin to a four-episode miniseries or an extended TV movie being possibly — think in terms of what Psych did this past year.
Unfortunately, the primary problem with a Longmire revival right now is finding a proper home for it. Netflix seems to be moving forward and while that’s a bummer, we don’t blame them since they revived the series in the first place. Getting proper distribution is the challenge since the studio is not in the business of throwing money down the drain — they need to have a return on the investment and doing a straight-to-DVD release is probably not enough. We’d love to see Netflix re-enter the picture here, or to see maybe another cable network like a Hallmark or a WGN America get involved in some capacity.
Will a Longmire movie or two happen?
As of right now we’re cautiously optimistic. There’s a reason to have hope, but we also have to be realistic here is noting that the majority of revival prospects don’t ever come to fruition. Longmire already struck gold once. Can it really do that again?
