First things first, our advice to you as you prepare for the future of the series is to have a little bit of patience. Like many other shows that are out there at the moment, The X-Files is going to be embarking on a hiatus for the Olympics. It’s not on next week; meanwhile, it’s also not coming back on the air the week after. The series starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will return on Wednesday, February 28 with the first of its final four episodes … possibly ever. Fox has yet to reveal information regarding this said episode just yet, but we imagine that the writers are going to start ramping up the intensity towards an epic conclusion.
While the remainder of the X-Files air dates have not been 100% confirmed, the already-established Empire return date makes it clear that there should be new episodes on March 7, March 14, and then the finale on March 21. The only reason why this wouldn’t be the case is if Fox does some wonky scheduling such as airing one episode of the series on a different night.
There’s no denying that it’s sad to see the end of the road for The X-Files being near, or at least the end of the road as we know it. We’re still struggling to wrap our head around the baffling comments made recently suggesting that it could go on without Gillian Anderson. We understand not wanting to penalize crew members who may still want a job, but why not think about things in this way: Isn’t there a way to create a new show that could give some of these crew members an even better gig? Doing a small order of episodes every couple of years isn’t exactly the most stable gig in the world as it is.
Hopefully by the time The X-Files does return to the air, we’ve got things shored up in terms of the series’ long-term future.
