Big Brother: Celebrity Edition spotlight: Ariadna Gutiérrez, former Miss Colombia

Who is Ariadna Gutiérrez, upcoming Big Brother: Celebrity Edition contestant?  This is one of those occasions where you are probably more familiar with someone because of what happened to them as opposed to who they actually are. We are speaking here about a former Miss Colombia, someone who was at the center of one of the most infamous moments in the history of Miss Universe. For a very brief period of time, Gutiérrez thought that she was the winner of Miss Universe. However, that was due entirely to Steve Harvey completely bungling the announcement of the actual winner. We did feel pretty sorry for her, given that this was one of the biggest moments of her life. (For those unaware, Miss Philippines actually ended up winning the title.)

Did this turn out to be okay in the end for Gutiérrez? Clearly. She’s gotten attention all over the world and even here, she is a part of a reality TV show that she wouldn’t have been doing otherwise. She is the total wild card of this season. Nobody really knows anything about her personality other than one TV moment she was a part of over a year ago. It’s a strange cast but one that we understand — she’s the right combination of famous but still attainable for this show.

We’re not sure if Gutiérrez has ever seen an episode of Big Brother, let alone if she knows how to play the game. She’s probably going to be fine for the first eviction or two just because there’s a zero percent chance she ruffles feathers more than Brandi Glanville or Omarosa. She just needs to figure out a way to lay low in the early going and not cause too much trouble. Basically, she just needs to figure out a way to let some other people implode all around her. They’ll do that, and if she’s likable and energetic enough there’s a reasonably good shot that she emerges in the final three or in the finale in one piece.

The thing we’re most excited about – In the midst of so many people that we’ve seen on other reality shows over time, it’s actually rather nice to have someone we’re not altogether familiar with on the season. She’ll bring an interesting perspective into the mix and hopefully a fun worldview. Sure, we know that there are dozens of beauty queens on reality TV a year, but few are A) as successful as she was and B) as notable as she was, even if it was for just one small moment in time.
