The Good Doctor spoilers: More Chris D’Elia appearances coming

Chris D'Elia

As someone who loves it when TV castings catch us by surprise, it was certainly a thrill to see The Good Doctor bring on board Chris D’Elia on this past episode. In addition to being one of our favorite comedians, he’s also someone who we know mostly for comedies like Whitney and Undateable — it’s nice to see him get some drama work. This was one of those few occasions where we were genuinely shocked to see a familiar face on a show and we hadn’t heard about it in advance.

Ultimately, we’re pretty stoked to see how D’Elia factors into the show as Shaun Murphy’s new neighbor, who came in after the recent departure of Lea. Judging from what Chris wrote recently on Instagram, he’s not going anywhere in the near future. We’ll see him in a “bunch of episodes” coming up the rest of the season, which hopefully means that he is someone who could become a friend to Shaun and a different influence on his life. Is it possible that he also makes his life a living hell? Sure, but Shaun really needs friends and we like the idea of these two very different guys finding some sort of common ground and getting along.

In some ways, D’Elia could inject a little bit more humor into the show, but also some humanity to go along with it. He’s a different voice, a refreshing perspective, and a remainder that there is a life outside of the hospital. Often with these medical shows we can get a little bit caught up on just the cases that we forget that, eventually, the doctors all go home.

The Good Doctor airs another new episode on ABC Monday night. We’ll have some more details as we get closer to it airing.
