Supergirl season 3 episode 10 review: Brainiac-5 and other Worldkillers

Supergirl season 3 episode 10

Supergirl season 3 episode 10 certainly presented a wide array of different challenges. For starters, the CW series had to figure out how in the world to tell an action-packed story with Supergirl out of commission. The longer the episode went, and the quicker it became obvious that Reign was not just going to wait around.

As a result of that, Alex Danvers and the rest of the DEO went into action. The problem? The Legion of Superheroes were a powerful group, but they also were destined in order to save the day in the future. For much of the episode that didn’t want to be in a position where they could be directly involved and with that, change the future. Yet, that started to change after Alex and J’onn went out into the field to try and stop Reign. In the process of that, they quickly learned that this character was even stronger than they realized. While the kryptonite did hurt her, it was not anywhere near strong enough.

This is when the Legion decided to finally get involved. Mon-El, Saturn Girl, and newcomer Brainiac 5 (who was incredibly cool in show form) all decided to head out and try to stop Reign with one simple goal: Injecting kryptonite into her bloodstream. She had taken it upon herself to execute anyone who she felt was unjust (she’s almost Dexter Morgan on steroids) and the Legion had to stop her before she incapacitated an entire prison.

As Reign started to ravage the prison, she did run into one familiar face: Thomas Coville, who decided that he would become Reign’s servant after previously bowing to Kara. He survived … largely because the Legion arrived and Reign had something else to deal with. Namely, a ship with the weapons necessary to take her out. Unfortunately, not even them seemed capable of taking down Reign … and they needed a little bit of last-minute help.

Kara’s attempts to wake up

While she recovered from some of her injuries Kara found herself stuck within a dream-like state, one where she did everything that she could to regain both her humanity and herself. Brainiac-5 was there with her, serving as the (rather humorous) conduit between one world and the next. He traded with her some funny banter, and then on the other side of that Kara realized that she needed to be Kara Danvers and Supergirl both in order to make it through. She found her key to surviving and returning right in time.

Kara, upon waking up, stumbled to make it to the scene of the battle against Reign … and she succeeded in getting the kryptonite into her! She still escaped, but this was her first major victory. Reign was defeated … for now.

The aftermath

Kara got to meet Brainiac in the real world, and Kara Danvers had to figure out her way to get back to her life. That included her getting a chance to learn more about what’s going on Lena and James in the aftermath of them kissing. (J’onn pretending to be Kara to throw Lena off was one of the funnier moments of the episode.)

By the end of the episode James and Lena kissed again and Kara got to bond a little bit more with Alex, who broke her leg in the midst of her battle with Reign.

As for the Reign-related cliffhanger, basically she learned something very important: There are other Worldkillers out there, and they could be coming her way soon enough.
