NCIS season 15 set to juggle new episodes, repeats in weeks ahead

We know that CBS can have confusing airing schedules for some of their shows every now and then, but what is happening with NCIS season 15 coming up is especially notable in terms of just how much of a game of hot potato you’re getting. One week, there is a new episode; however, the next week there’s not. This is a pattern that you’re going to be getting for a few weeks now moving forward.

As previously reported here at CarterMatt, there is no new episode coming up on CBS Tuesday night; instead, all signs are currently pointing towards the network airing one of their crossovers between this show and NCIS: New Orleans. (Wouldn’t it be nice to have a little bit more news on that coming up in the future?) The next new episode is coming up on Tuesday, January 23, but then following that there’s going to be no new episode airing on the 30th. Then, (per the Futon Critic) there’s going to be another new episode airing on February 6 … which is going to be the last one to air before the Olympic Games. The show will be off again for at least a couple of weeks after that.

Why does CBS choose to air NCIS episodes in this way? This is certainly a reasonable question worth asking, largely because we’re sure that the off-and-on viewing patterns for some out there are a little bit frustrating. We know that for many out there, it would probably be preferred to have a run of them and then a longer hiatus.

As for why CBS doesn’t do that when so many other networks do, they’ve seemingly found that they preserve their audience better scattering episodes across the season. It’s also easier to do that with NCIS than some other shows that are a little more serialized in nature. With NCIS, you can often pick up, watch one episode, miss one, and then come back later without any problem. There’s always a chance to check out more of the show in the future after missing a few episodes and you won’t feel lost.
