The Good Doctor spoilers: Is Lea leaving for good?

Is Lea leaving The Good Doctor for good? At the end of this past episode, we ended up seeing the character express an interest in leaving in order to take on a new life for herself. Unfortunately, that potential new life does take her very far away from Dr. Shaun Murphy.

For those who like the character, the bad news is that it does seem as though she is going to be gone for a little while.

Speaking in a new interview with TVLine, executive producer David Shore had the following to say about the future for Lea, and the reason why this entire storyline with her in “Islands” was crafted in the first place:

“What we want to do is put Shaun in situations and see how he reacts to them — put him in a situation where he’s attracted to a woman, put him in a situation where she responds. And how does he react in a situation where she leaves? … I’d love to have her come back, though. I don’t think it’ll happen by the end of this season, but hopefully we’ll have next season to play with.”

There is very little doubt in our mind that Lea brought an interesting dimension to Shaun’s story this season, primarily from the vantage point of giving us a chance to see a different side to Shaun than we have seen before. It offered a romantic connection and a chance to see a little bit outside of himself.

Beyond just the departure of Lea, we do have one other problem coming up for Shaun — even if it’s one that is of his own doing. Over the course of this coming episode he will give his two weeks’ notice, and as a result of that the rest of the hospital could be scrambling in order to figure out what to do.
