How Chicago Fire – Chicago PD 2018 crossover will feature journalism

Chicago Fire

The Chicago FireChicago PD 2018 crossover event is going to be here before too long! While it may not be coming your way prior to the start of the Winter Olympics, hopefully it’s going to surface not too long after that. The writers have been getting together stories for a little while now, and we’re starting to get a good sense as to what part of the story will be about.

Recently, CarterMatt conducted an interview with showrunner Derek Haas where he explained that Antonio, (in his efforts to get some valuable intelligence) is going to enlist the help of Brett and Dawson in order to distract a man they have visited often as paramedics in the past. As it turns out, this man is essential to the case.

So what about the crossover in a thematic sense? There is quite a bit that the show will explore there, in particular when it comes to how an accomplished journalist finds a part of his life devastated by fake news on social media. Here’s what Chicago PD showrunner Rick Eid said on the subject to TV Guide:

“It’ll focus on a man whose life has been essentially destroyed by social media … It’s a real journalist who played by the rules, who checked his sources and vetted the facts, [and] is on the wrong end of a social media smear campaign.”

Can Intelligence or people within Firehouse 51 help this man? That’s something that we’ll have to wait and see, but if you love One Chicago crossovers you’re almost sure to like this one. The story is more continuous between the two shows than we’ve seen as of late with crossovers; some of the stories from one episode are going to bleed over into the other and you’re going to want to watch both to understand what’s going on.
