The Fosters season 5 winter premiere: What’s changed by series finale reveal?

Fosters season 5 winter premiere

The Fosters season 5 winter premiere is airing on Freeform on Tuesday night, but it is now fair to say that this is far from your ordinary winter premiere for many reasons.

For starters, there is the fact that the season 5 finale is now the series finale for the show on Freeform.

As previously reported, the network has opted to order a new spin-off show featuring Maya Mitchell and Cierra Ramirez as opposed to continue the show in its current form. They are keeping the spirit of the program alive, but are going to be presenting it in a package that is very much different than any that you’ve had a chance to see before. Callie and Mariana are going to be years older, and to go along with that in Los Angeles. They have new priorities, and at the top of that list includes the two of them doing what they can in order to bring about social change in a more public, visible way. They have careers and more of their own platforms.

With this big, upcoming change in mind, there are obviously many different things that The Fosters needs to do between now and the time we make it to the series finale. At the top of that list is figure out a way to tie up some storylines featuring characters we may not see anywhere near as often. We hope that Lena and Stef will still make periodic appearances in the spin-off, but are we really so confident as to confirm that now? Not so much. There are also some other things that the series should address, including whether or not Ximena gets to stay in the country and also if it’s at all possible for Anchor Beach to keep the doors open. These are both major storylines that were set up during the most-recent finale for the show.

Hopefully, we have a conclusion that serves as a celebration of the entire five seasons of the show, one that touches on key themes and gives everyone from Jude to Stef hope for the future. While there are many trials and tribulations, we do think at the end of the day The Fosters is meant to be about hope through it all.
