This Is Us season 2: Sterling K. Brown delivers Jack teaser at Golden Globes

When will Jack die

At the center of This Is Us season 2 remains one big question — and, of course that question relates to the character of Jack. He’s become the emotional heartbeat of the entire series, but unfortunately his life does happen to be a ticking clock.

When will Jack die? According to Sterling K. Brown, the moment is for sure happening by the end of this season.

Speaking on the Golden Globes red carpet pre-show to host Ryan Seacrest, Brown (a nominee for Actor in a Drama Series) noted that we are going to learn the truth regarding what happened to Jack by the end of the season. You will learn how he died, and hopefully, get a little bit of a better sense as to how the characters immediately recovered from that. It also feels like we’re not giving the characters enough sympathy to call it devastating.

Learning the truth about Jack’s death is very important for the series, but beyond that there is of course a little bit of something more at play here. It matters for the sake of forward movement, and establishing other things that viewers can come to expect. While we’ve enjoyed almost every element of the show so far, we do worry about too much of the narrative momentum stemming from just one question. This Is Us is, at its core, not a mystery. Once viewers learn how Jack dies, there should still be many great stories to tell after the fact.

When will This Is Us return to the air?

There’s not too much more of a wait left. Tuesday night marks the first official episode of the new year, and it’s going to be an important one. Brown teased to Seacrest that this episode will address the immediate aftermath of Kevin’s DUI, as both Randall and the rest of the family will come to terms with what happened.

Ultimately, it remains to be seen whether or not This Is Us will promote when Jack dies before it happens; you’re just going to have to keep watching live so you don’t miss it.
