American Horror Story season 9 will likely be Murder House, Coven crossover
So is the Murder House – Coven crossover finally happening? Well, the good news is that it is … but you’re going to have to wait a little bit longer in order to see it.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, co-creator Ryan Murphy confirmed while at TCA this week that the long-awaited crossover between the first and third American Horror Story seasons will likely happen during season 9. This season has already been outlined, so there are some plans starting to come together with it long in advance. That is probably a good thing given the creative challenges associated with it. While with other seasons of the show you can fly a little more by the seat of your pants, here there are people you need to secure in advance and there has to be a little more structure because of that. It is a pretty significant departure from past seasons, given that save for a few little crossovers here and there there has not been a season that took two different groups of characters and smashed them together.
One of the clearest challenges that we see in making the Murder House – Coven crossover into reality is finding enough interesting characters who aren’t dead, and then having a tangible reason for some of them to be together. After all, you do need to remember that while this show often does go off the rails, at some point there does need to be a premise that makes relative sense.

Looking beyond the Murder House – Coven crossover…
One more thing worth noting is that Sarah Paulson is once again going to be the star of the show for season 8. Given the way that season 3 ended, it feels pretty safe to say that she could end up being a key player during season 9, as well. Not every other longtime American Horror Story cast member will likely return for these two seasons, but Murphy has a great talent for getting people to come back to his projects, even after many years away.
