How Supernatural season 13 is keeping the Wayward Sisters hype going

For everyone out there wondering how Supernatural season 13 is going to keep the promotion going for Wayward Sisters even beyond the backdoor pilot, we’ve got an even greater sense of it now.

Supernatural season 13 episode 11, which carries with it the title of “Breakdown,” is going to feature Donna yet again after the backdoor pilot the week before. It’s also going to give you a fairly gross story revolving around a man who basically trades body parts to monsters. Check out the full synopsis below for more:

TIME TO RETURN THE FAVOR – Donna (guest star Briana Buckmaster) calls Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) for help after her niece, Wendy (guest star Sarah Dugdale), goes missing. The three hunters discover Wendy was kidnapped by a man who sells human parts to monsters in a grotesque online auction and race to save her before it is too late. Amyn Kaderali directed the episode written by Davy Perez (#1311). Original airdate 1/25/2018.

The one big risk that Supernatural is taking here is what happens in the event that Wayward Sisters is not picked up. Basically, they’ll have spent a number of episodes this season on a story that didn’t really go anywhere. We do feel reasonably confident that the spin-off will happen, though — we like most of the characters, and we do think establishing their voice and some of these people over season 13 is smart. It also helps to make the backdoor pilot feel a little less disjointed and like it’s coming out of nowhere.

Also, it certainly feels as though Supernatural season 13 episode 11 is the perfect combination of old and new. It does have a little bit of that vintage Supernatural flair, while at the same time it’s presenting something that is both new and exciting for you. Hopefully, it sets the stage for a few more interesting plotlines and guest spots later in the season. Not every Supernatural episode needs to play into Wayward Sisters, but it’d be nice to see another character or two later this season — especially if they learn of a series pickup while the season is still being written.
