Outlander stars Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan celebrate upcoming Golden Globes

Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan

It’s rare that we have three Outlander-related stories in a single day, but it’s also rare that there is this much activity happening in the offseason!

Today, we’re here with a reminder that the Golden Globes are happening in just two days, and with that there’s also a chance that Caitriona Balfe could end the night being referred to forever as Golden Globe winner Caitriona Balfe. She is up for Actress in a Drama Series, and you can read more about her odds to win over at the link here (at least per our own analysis).

This weekend, both Balfe and her co-star Sam Heughan (who clearly should have been nominated, as well) are both in Los Angeles, and they made an appearance together at a W Magazine event at the famed Chateau Marmont. While there, Balfe celebrated her nomination and also made it clear that she will wear black at the Globes in solidarity with many other women in the midst of the #MeToo movement:

“I think it’s a really great moment of solidarity for women, so it’ll be nice for all of us to join together and to make a really positive statement and a positive moment for change … And I still think it’s a celebratory moment, but it’s, you know, we’re changing things, so I think that’s great.”

Caitriona also confirmed that she has donated herself to the Time’s Up legal defense fund that is raising money to help victims fight sexual harassment cases.

“I’ve donated. I’ve signed … I just think it’s great for everyone to raise awareness and I think that’s the most important thing. … I think this is all a moment about not so much, ‘Look at me,’ but, ‘We see you,’ and we can do something to help other people.”

In the midst of the movement we realize that the Golden Globes this year are going to be different from most others. This is the first major televised ceremony since the movement began. It is a celebration of shows, films, and performers, but there are opportunities to speak out on larger causes. Hopefully there will be a number of meaningful statements and powerful moments.

Also, hopefully Heughan is able to join Balfe at the Globes itself — we know that Outlander is poised to have a nice cheering section at the red carpet! For these two, it’s also probably a nice break for them from filming, and a chance to promote the show while enjoying some Los Angeles weather. They picked a great time to come out!

One other reminder

If you love Sophie Skelton, be sure to check out Day of the Dead: Bloodline today! It’s a chance to see her in a very different environment and it should help in the midst of this very long Droughtlander that is going on.
