Vikings season 5 episode 8 preview: The battle for Kattegat

Vikings season 5 episode 8

Next week Vikings season 5 episode 8 is airing on History, and this one entitled “The Joke” is one that many fans out there have been waiting for. There’s been talk for ages now about some epic battle scenes coming up on the History drama, and we’ve been building towards them for weeks with characters like Lagertha and Ivar doing their own political maneuvering. There have been times where season 5 paced itself a little too slow compared to the ones that aired in the past, but this episode may be the one to change things. It could end up even being the one that leaves your jaw hanging on the floor by the time we make it to the closing minutes.

Want to get a little more Vikings season 5 episode 8 news? CarterMatt has the full synopsis below:

The battle for Kattegat begins, and as the two armies line up to fight, the Great Heathen Army must decide between a final plea for peace or all-out war. Meanwhile, Floki faces discord among the settlers…

Peace or war? In modern day, of course we’d have a little bit more of an idea as to what’s going to happen. In the world of Vikings, it’s not exactly so cut and dry. We know that the battle is coming regardless it’s just who is going to be sitting on that throne at the end of it – Lagertha, Ivar or Harald? We also have to look at the possibility that this is when the Seer’s prophecy comes to life as he has told Lagertha that one of Ragnar’s sons will kill her… could it be by Ivar in this battle?

Don’t expect Vikings season 5 episode 8 to be the last of the battles that take place in this first half of the season. This show has a real tendency to make the most of some of these sequences; expect a few more scenes coming up. No one does a battle scene quite like Vikings does!

As for the Floki drama, there’s a part of the disarray that we just find entertaining! Maybe a big part of that stems from the fact that we just find the Floki character so entertaining with his frequent propensity to get himself into trouble. Taking a part of Lagertha’s army and sailing them off to unknown lands touched by the Gods seems like a great idea in theory since in the viking culture everyone wants to be one with the Gods, but we expect that Floki is going to have some troubles convincing everyone that they made the right choice as time goes on.
